Where We’ll Gather
Berlin, Germany provides tremendous potential for programming for GYPC. The Wall (there are still some sections standing), prison sites and nearby concentration camps, the Memorial Church, and the living testimonies of those who lived in a divided city, provide a backdrop for exploring what young people can work toward to overcome oppression in their own settings.
The local language is German, though many speak several languages, English among them. Translation will be available for all who participate in the Global Convocation. The Brandenburg Gate, shown in our logo symbolizes peace (commissioned for that purpose in the 1700’s by King Fredrick William II) and the unity that can come out of division (symbolized by the re-opening of the gate by the leaders of East and West Germany after the Berlin Wall came down).
We’ll be staying and meeting in the Estrel Hotel and Convention Center in Berlin. The hotel and it’s huge atrium will provide the setting for comfortable accommodations, and a variety of food and spacious meeting areas. Nearby public transportation will provide access to various parts of Berlin for service and learning experiences. Check out their website here.

- Ask members of your home congregation to support your participation.
- Ask your youth group to do a fundraiser to support your participation.
- See persons in your church or community with frequent flyer miles who would give them to you for the flight to Berlin.
- Seek funds from district, conference, and jurisdictional/central conference sources.
