Young Leader’s Initiative

The Young Leaders Initiative is a collection of programs designed to create a “culture of call” which nurtures young people as Christian leaders in the Metro Detroit area. Primarily YLI focuses on the Metro Youth Encounter & Motown Mission Experience programs for Middle School and Senior High students AND the Transforming Leaders & Detroit Villages/emergedetroit.org programs for young adults.

Honduras service opportunity for Youth and Young Adults

Sierra Service Project (SSP) announces plans to send three teams of youth and young adults to Honduras in the summer of 2010. Volunteers work alongside Honduran families and community members to build two simple, but safe, dry and secure brick homes. This is a cultural immersion program which offers insight into one of the poorest countries in the Americas to young people wishing to learn more about the area and selflessly serve.

Teach For America

Teach For America seeks individuals from all backgrounds, academic majors, and career interests with the leadership skills and experience to change the prospects of our nation’s children.  As a member of Teach For America, you commit two years to teach in a high-need rural or urban community, and gain the skills, perspective, and experience to help you make an impact over your long term vocation. Last year, Teach For America welcomed 40 new corps members who were Wesley Foundation participants during college, and almost 170 who identified as United Methodist.  Learn more about joining Teach For America or contact faithcommunities@teachforamerica.org for more information.
